Hon’ble Agriculture Principal Secretary Inspects Sabour Makhana Harvesting Machine at BPSAC, Purnea

The successful inspection of the “Sabour Makhana Harvesting Machine” was conducted on 10 January 2026 at Bhola Paswan Shastri Agricultural College, Purnea, in the esteemed presence of Shri Narmadeshwar Lal, Hon’ble Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Government of Bihar. His visit reflected the Government of Bihar’s sustained commitment towards promoting mechanization and technological advancement in makhana cultivation. During the programme, the Hon’ble Principal Secretary interacted with scientists, faculty, staff, and students, and emphasized the importance of the makhana harvesting machine in reducing drudgery, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the income of farmers engaged in makhana production. On this occasion, he also inaugurated the Navagraha Vatika, symbolizing the harmonious integration of traditional knowledge systems with contemporary agricultural education. Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour highlighted the pioneering role of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, in elevating makhana to national and global prominence and appreciated the scientific team for developing this farmer-centric innovation which is expected to benefit nearly five lakh makhana growers across the state.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Inaugurates Multiple Academic, Horticultural and Innovation Initiatives at BPSAC, Purnea

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour inaugurated several key academic and innovation initiatives at Bhola Paswan Shastri Agricultural College (BPSAC), Purnea on 6 January 2026 reaffirming the University’s commitment to experiential learning, horticultural development, and farmer-centric innovation. The Ornamental and Seasonal Horticultural Nursery was inaugurated to promote floriculture, landscaping, production of quality planting materials, and skill development for students and farmers. On the same occasion, the “Pushpa Vaatika”, comprising more than 30 varieties of ornamental and seasonal flowers was inaugurated as a living laboratory for teaching, demonstration, and campus beautification. The innovative “One Student One Plot (OSOP)” programme was also launched, providing first-year B.Sc. (Agriculture) students with hands-on exposure to crop cultivation and agripreneurship. In addition, the Makhana Harvesting Machine developed by BPSAC faculty was inspected, and its potential to reduce drudgery, improve efficiency, and enhance profitability in Makhana cultivation was highlighted.

BAU, Sabour Conferred “Pride of Nation Award 2025” for Excellence in Nationalism and Nation-Building

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour has been conferred the “Pride of Nation Award 2025” in the category of Best University of Bihar State: Excellence in Nationalism, Patriotism and Nation-Building. The award was presented by Veterans India, in collaboration with the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) at a dignified ceremony held at the NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi, on 16^th December, 2025. The award recognises educational institutions that transcend academic excellence by nurturing national pride, social responsibility and transformational leadership in alignment with NEP-2020, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BAU Sabour Attends First Official Meeting of the Makhana Board, Government of India

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, attended the first official meeting of the Makhana Board on 12th December 2025, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The meeting focused on charting strategic pathways for the systematic development of the makhana sector. Detailed discussions were held on improving productivity through scientific production technologies and region-specific interventions. Disease management emerged as a key agenda, with emphasis on surveillance, research-led solutions, and integrated management practices. Ensuring the availability of quality seed through strengthened seed production and distribution systems was also highlighted. The meeting further outlined a future roadmap involving coordinated efforts among research institutions, extension agencies, and policymakers to enhance value addition, market linkages, and farmer incomes.

Orientation-cum-Sensitization Workshop on Academic Excellence for Post Graduate and Doctoral Students

Under the guidance of Dr. D.R. Singh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, the Department of Horticulture (Vegetable Science) organized a one-day Orientation-cum-Sensitization Workshop on Academic Excellence for Post Graduate and Doctoral Students on 9th December, 2025. The programme aimed to familiarize students with the academic, research, and regulatory framework of BAU, Sabour. 

Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour Meets Hon’ble Ministers of Agriculture and Environment

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BAU Sabour on 8^th December 2025 paid a courtesy visit to Shri Ram Kripal Yadav, Hon’ble Minister, Agriculture Department, and Dr. Pramod Kumar, Hon’ble Minister, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Bihar. He briefed them on the university’s major academic, research, and extension activities along with on-going initiatives in digital agriculture, climate resilience, and farmer outreach. The Vice Chancellor also shared the future plans and vision of the University for strengthening agricultural education and research in Bihar. He respectfully invited both the Ministers to visit BAU Sabour and interact with faculty, students and staffs of the University.

BAU, Sabour Leads Bihar’s Largest High-Tech National Soil Mapping Project at 1:10k Scale of Govt. of India

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, has been entrusted by the Government of India’s Soil and Land Use Survey of India (SLUSI) to lead the prestigious National Soil Mapping Project (NSMP) at 1:10k scale; the state’s largest scientific soil survey in 35 years. The last comprehensive survey was conducted in 1990. This three-year, ₹37-crore project aims to create high-resolution digital soil maps for all 38 districts of Bihar, enabling precise crop planning, nutrient management, and sustainable agricultural development.

Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour Commemorates World Soil Day 2025: Promoting Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities

Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour observed World Soil Day on 5^th December 2025, aligning with the global theme “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.” The Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry organized a series of awareness activities to highlight the vital role of soil in ensuring sustainable urban and rural development. The programme began with a Prabhat Pheri, followed by the inauguration of a Wall Magazine and a conceptual model showcasing soil conservation practices. A newsletter on soil health was released, featuring the department’s ongoing research and outreach initiatives. The event also included a special lecture by Dr. A.K. Jha, Associate Professor, on “Mrida: Ek Sankshipt Parichay”, along with a quiz competition and a poster exhibition to engage students and visitors in learning about soil science. To nurture early understanding of soil stewardship, 20 students (Classes 9 & 10) from Uchcha Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Laxmipur (Ismailpur) and 25 students (Classes 3 to 5) from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Sabour were invited to participate. Faculty members, departmental chairpersons, postgraduate students, and non-teaching staff attended the day-long event, making it a collaborative and impactful celebration.

Vice Chancellor, BAU Sabour, Briefs Top Bihar Officials on Institutional Progress and Research Advancements

Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour held a series of courtesy meetings with three senior dignitaries of the Government of Bihar on 4^th December, 2025. He first met Shri Samrat Choudhary, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, followed by interactions with Shri Shrawan Kumar, Minister for Rural Development, and Dr. Prem Kumar, Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. During these meetings, Dr. Singh briefed the leaders on BAU’s recent developments, including the release of improved crop varieties, adoption of advanced farming technologies, strengthening of research and laboratory infrastructure, and expansion of farmer-oriented training and extension programmes. He also highlighted the university’s efforts in digital agriculture, student capacity building and rural livelihood enhancement. All three dignitaries appreciated BAU’s scientific progress and encouraged the university to continue driving innovation for the benefit of farmers and the overall agricultural growth of Bihar.

Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour Conducts Voluntary Blood Donation Camp

On 1^st December 2025, coinciding with World AIDS Day, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour organized a voluntary blood donation camp in collaboration with the NSS Unit, BAU Sabour, and HDFC Bank, Bhagalpur. The event also witnessed active participation from the Red Ribbon Club, BAU, Sabour. A team of doctors from Bhagalpur Blood Bank (JLNMCH, Bhagalpur) facilitated the blood collection, resulting in 62 units of blood being successfully donated. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to social responsibility and community health awareness.
